Every year since 1986, usually in March, the Rotary Clubs of Howick and Half Moon Bay have jointly organised a Charity Yacht Regatta on the sparkling Waitemata Harbour with up to 50 yachts and over 360 people enjoying a fantastic experience.
Friday 11 March 2011 will be no exception, starting with onshore brunch, a packed lunch on the yachts, followed by a dinner and prize giving back onshore.
Based at Half Moon Bay Marina, Auckland, the regatta has raised over $1.4 million to date since 1986, for distribution to a wide range of charitable organisations and community groups.
In recent years support has been provided to Auckland Downe Syndrome Association, Coastguard, Hospice South Auckland, Life Education Trust, Salvation Army Projects, South Auckland Health Foundation – Kidz First, The Stella Trust, and Victim Support. Beneficiaries this year will include Hospice South Auckland and Ronald McDonald House.
The Rotary clubs have also sponsored programmes for developing youth leadership, vocational skills, literacy and numeracy, the needs of aged, infirm, women and children and those affected by poverty. Funds have also been applied to public health needs, public amenities, protection of the environment, disaster and emergency relief services, and social rehabilitation programmes.
Sponsors may choose yachts to accommodate 6, 8, 10 or 12 persons. We can also accommodate groups of less than 6 persons who are willing to share a yacht with another group.
This is a fantastic opportunity to host and reward your most valued business associates, clients, suppliers, staff or friends with a fabulous day of sailing, fun, food and fellowship.
